Tahoe Flood Alert

The recent storm activity has the Tahoe area on high alert. Many are worried about the coming change from snow to warmer temperatures and rain, and fear a repeat of the devastating floods of 1997. The holiday week storm dumped over 6 feet of new snow, and some forecast 6-12 inches of rain on the way. This storm caused major road closures, and some ski resorts were closed as well. After a break in the weather Thursday and Friday, wet weather is due in Saturday. Details on the current situation can be found on vaildaily.com. Local historian Mark McLaughlin wrote in detail about why this storm shouldn't cause the type of flooding seen in 1997 at http://tahoetopia.com/news/pineapple-express-weather-tahoe.
