Lake Tahoe Ski Resort Information
A combination of cold weather and a few recent storms have allowed for snowmaking at the resorts around Lake Tahoe. While last week’s storm only brought snow above 7000 feet, another system is forecast for the region in the first week of December.
A few ski resorts like Boreal Mountain Resort and Mount Rose are already open, and many will be opening on Thanksgiving day or shortly thereafter.
One thing to keep in mind this season is that Northstar and Palisades Tahoe are implementing a parking reservation system. Prior to traveling to either resort, you should check whether reservations are required. There are certain days or hours where reservations are not necessary.
Additionally, parking at Homewood Mountain Resort will require a pass, so be sure to check each resort's changes for parking this year.
Northstar California
Northstar California will be opening on November 23rd, 2023. Until December 3rd, you can still enjoy discounts on the Tahoe Local Pass and the Epic Day Pass. You can lock in your pass prices now, and decide later when and where to ski and ride this season. More Information.
Northstar will require parking reservations beginning on December 16, 2023 for weekends and peak periods from 7am to 1pm. Free parking is still available at the Castle Peak lot, or for vehicles with four or more people.
Palisades Tahoe
Palisades Tahoe is scheduled to open November 22, 2023. Guests can still enjoy free parking without reservations Monday through Friday at both Palisades and Alpine. Parking is first come, first served without reservations. Some holiday and blackout days will require reservations.
On Saturdays and Sundays and select holidays, parking reservations will be required beginning in December. You might consider using TART or Palisade’s free Mountaineer shuttle to avoid the hassle of making reservations. . More Information.
Sugarbowl
Sugarbowl is scheduled to open on December 1, 2023. With easy access from I-80, this is a popular resort for day skiers. They’ve added a new ski racing speed course, warming hut, and snow grooming equipment. They also boast a 10-lane tubing park. More Information.
Homewood Mountain Resort
Homewood is scheduled to open on December 15, 2023. This is a family friendly resort that is perfect for beginning skiers. It features outstanding views of Lake Tahoe and trailing runs that meander throughout the mountain.
You will be required to have a pass to park at Homewood, so be sure to buy yours ahead of time. More Information
Granlibakken
Another charming ski area on the west shore, the Granlibakken sled hill will open on November 23rd, 2023. Guests can enjoy early-season, discounted tickets that include sled rentals. Granlibakken also features a charming resort.
Their ski and snowboard hill is scheduled to open on December 15, 2023. The resort offers great lake views, lodging and dining in a very charming setting. Granlibakken appeals to families who want to enjoy a quiet winter haven away from the crowds.
This year, they will offer night sledding over the holidays where guests can sled under the lights and enjoy hot chocolate or mulled cider between turns. More Information.
