Truckee's Local Art Community

Truckee Art Gallery outside

Artists are the soul of a community. They preserve culture, encourage social dialogue, promote well-being, and enhance the aesthetic and social fabric of the community as a whole.

Choosing the path of an artist takes courage and they remind us of what it means to stay true to ourselves. In the face of the financial uncertainty and the vulnerability that comes from challenging the norms, artists follow their dreams with only their vision to guide them.

It is through this courage that they are able to make a meaningful impact on our local community and share their unique perspectives.

This month, I wanted to focus on two very amazing artists in the Lake Tahoe and Truckee community. Not only are they doing great things for the community, they are also moms!

Michelle Erskine

Michelle is a professional photographer, specializing in landscape fine art photography and people. As Michelle Erskine Entertainment, she supports and promotes the Lake Tahoe basin’s creative and local talent.

M.E. Entertainment  acts as an intermediary agent, connecting venues with a variety of artists. Whether solo acoustic guitar, dancers, DJs, live theater, aerial performances, or large bands, Michelle can help make your event or party fun and memorable.

The Art Truckee Gallery opened in May 2016 in downtown Truckee. Michelle’s goal was to preserve and promote Truckee’s beloved history and culture. In partnership with her entertainment company, the location hosted multiple events including theater performances, live music, comedy nights and other inspired performing arts that added to the creative ambiance.

She lined the walls with beautiful photography and paintings on display, and for purchase. Maintaining the integrity and character of the old Capital building, the community enjoyed the unique mix of history with fine and performing arts.

After 2 years of looking for the perfect new location, Art Truckee has found a new home at 9940 Donner Pass Rd, Downtown Truckee! Art Truckee has partnered with Alpenglow Gallery to provide an entertaining and sensory filled experience with Fine Art, Photography, Live Music and Performing Arts!

The beautiful, NEW LOCATION is a few doors down from the old location, near Moody’s. Her two companies, "Art Truckee" and "Michelle Erskine Entertainment" work together to showcase live and local talent!

Every first Friday of the month is a "Meet The Artists" event with live music and refreshments. The next First Friday event is on July 7th. On Saturday July 8th, she will feature a live art show with Alex Turner Kelly, known as AKA Alex Kelly Art.

AKA Alex Kelly Art

Like Michelle, Alex is a single mom, and both have overcome many obstacles to get to where they are.

Alex studied art - with a focus on both painting and graphic art and received her Bachelor’s Degree in Fine Art in 1997 at Chico State University. She then returned to the mountains, and raised a few seriously rad kids.

Through AKA Alex Kelly Art, her unique eye and talent allow her to produce fine art, graphic art, and commissioned pieces. In addition, she produces live art shows.

The Truckee community is blessed to have these two ladies keeping our creative soul alive and well. Please join me in supporting their efforts.
